7 Yoga Poses for Surfers

Downward-Dog

 

Downward Dog: Strengthens and tones the arms and legs.  Stretches shoulder and calf muscles.  Lengthens and straightens the spine helping to relieve all over back pain.

Cobra: Stretches muscles in the shoulders, chest and abdominals.  Decreases stiffness of the lower back.  Strengthens the arms and shoulders.  Increases flexibility.

 

 

 

Warrior pose

 

 

Warrior 2: Stretches your hips, groin and shoulders.  Strengthens and stretches your legs, ankles and feet.  Builds stamina, balance and concentration.

 

 

 

 

Tree pose

 

 

Tree Pose: Strengthens thighs, calves, ankles, and spine.  Stretches the inner thighs, chest and shoulders.  Improves sense of balance.

 

 

 

 

 

Lunge

 

 

Lunge: Releases tension in your hips.  Stretches your hamstrings, quads and groin.  Strengthens your legs, thighs, knees, ankles and psoas muscle.  Helps build mental focus.

 

 

 

 

 

Forward fold

 

 

Forward Fold: Stretches the hips, hamstrings, and calves.  Strengthens the thighs and knees.  Keeps your spine strong and flexible.  Calms the mind and soothes the nerves.  Relieves tension in the spine, neck and back.

Meditation: Calms the mind.  Improves concentration.  Decreases stress.  Increases self awareness.
